Schlitteln/sledding in Toggenburg

Shlitteln/sledding in Toggenburg

Früeweidstrasse, Unterwasser

The whole family went sledding in Toggenburg during the school's winter sports holiday. The place is near st. gallen in the eastern part of switzerland.

Our friend recommended the place since it's a family-friendly sledding place, though some parts are steep  for small kids,a good sled is advisable. We had a plastic sled good for 2 persons which was so hard to steer and we're always falling out (or maybe i'm not that good lol)...but all in all it was a fun day for the whole family.

The day ticket costs 34fr. which is expensive so it's better to go there early and go for more rounds as much as you can.The way going up the mountain is approx. 5mins by rack railway (zahnradbahn), sledding going down like 20-30 mins. or more depends how fast you are.

Aside from sledding the place is also for skiers and in summer a lovely place for hiking.

Here's their website for the infos.

Family time - Swiss Aquaparc

  Swiss Aquaparc

  • Located in a Bouveret,at the lake of geneva near montreux.Aquaparc is just few minutes walk from Bouveret train station.

We went there for a weekend during my sons spring break.
I bought a deal online for 50% off entrance ticket and it was worth it.

They have a big pirate ship where kids can climb up and play with the water guns, also slides for big and small kids.

They have wave pool which is popular in every indoor water parks. Kids can use floaties for free so no need to buy if you don't have one available.

The employees are really attentive and always making sure the safety of the guests. The whole are is well maintained and very clean.

My 2-yr old twin babies loved the pirate ship so much although it's somehow high for them we just make sure that they don't slip and fall.Always keep an eye on your kids to avoid any accidents since it's very slippery in every water parks. My 8-yr old son enjoyed and loved the big slides and the lazy river.

The outdoor pool was closed at that time due to bad weather,i think they just open it when it's summer or when it's not that cold.

Aquaparc also offers family photoshoot, their personnel will approach and ask the poeple if they want  to make a short fast photoshoot session and at the end of your stay you can check your photos and buy them at the reception.

Bouveret itself is such a wonderful place.
Walking near the lake is so relaxing and aside from aquaparc, swiss vapeur parc is also on the same location so make sure to visit them as well,it's nice for a weekend family trip.

Who doesn't love carnivals? - Basler Kinderfasnacht 2014 / Basel kids carnival

Basel Fasnacht is the most popular carnival celebration in switzerland every march.

It's a 3-day non-stop party in the whole city and every tuesday afternoon on the second day of fasnacht week is the one for kids.(Kinderfasnacht)

Everyone is dressed up with different kinds of costumes but the popular one is "Waggis Larve" a traditional basel mask ,It's somehow scary like the one on the picture below but that's one of the reason why Basel Carnival is so popular.

At first i wanted to bring my kids on the first day but my husband said it's better on the second day since it's for kids,no wild teenagers around and drunk adults lol

There are floats going around the city, giving small treats for the kids like sweets, small toys, stuffed toy etc.
My kids got 2kg. of candies and some other stuff.

I thought my Kids will get bored easily but no,they had sooo much fun getting the candies, eventhough we have a lot of sweets at home,i let them experience the joy of collecting candies from the scary "Waggis".At the end they're so proud of what they've got.

Check wikipedia for all the infos.

Miniature Wonderland! - Swiss Vapeur Park, Le Bouveret

Swiss vapeur park is an amusement park located at Le Bouveret on the other end side of geneva lake in Canton Vaud near montreux.

It's a miniature wonderland for kids with different kinds of mini version of swiss trains like those Sbb trains all over switzerland and swiss steam trains.

We had a weekend trip to Le bouveret to visit swiss vapeur park and swiss aquaparc. It's perfect for a family like us because they're just on the same location, no long walking required since we have twin babies with us.

It's not just for kids but for the whole family. You pay for a day entrance and you can ride all the trains as much as you want, aside from mini trains they also have mini replicas like castles and popular churches in switzerland.

They have kiosks and souvenir shops inside the park and if you want to bring your own food they have picnic area too.

I subscribe my son to Sbb magic ticket for kids and as a member we got a discount for an entry ticket in Vapeur park and to other amusement parks.

    (Magicticket.ch for all the infos.)

The good thing is ,it's just across the street from Le bouveret train station for those who don't have cars or for those who want to travel by train.
And it's near Le Bouveret Bahnhof (station). There is a BnB La Berg du Lac-Valentin (just few meters from bouveret bahnhof) we paid 100fr. for a night for a quadruple room with breakfast. The owner is very nice but just speaks in french or maybe a bit english, my husband is speaking french so we didn't have problems at all.

We love Swiss vapeur parc and Le Bouveret, such a lovely place! We will come back again soon :)

Happiness is where Happyland is! - Happyland, Switzerland

We visited Happyland during our visit in Valais (Wallis in german) during our son's school spring break. It was a sunny afternoon and a not-so-crowded day.

    *Boyo
    *Cherokee
    *Simulator 3D

    And a lot more!

My son is crazy about cars and this car track which they called Formula VD (Vaud the name of the canton/state) is perfect for kids like him. We never experienced long qeues at that time, i don't know if it was low season but no long waiting at all.

All in all we enjoyed our visit and we hope to go back again this year. Valais  (Wallis) is a beatiful place in switzerland with beautiful mountain view, they have an underground lake nearby that we visited as well.

    Mainau Island ,Germany

  •       78465 Insel Mainau, Germany

  • Mainau Island in Germany is similar to keukenhof in Holland. It's like a big wonderful garden with lot's of beautiful flowers and a wonderful scenery.

They have beautiful gardens with different themes. The kids loved the big peacock and duck formed flowers. We visited at the beggining of spring which was still a bit cold but sunny, perfect weather to walk around. They also have playgrounds and picnic place all over the place whenever you want to have a break after a long walk.

When i first saw the place ,it reminds me of the "secret garden" cartoon series that i used to watch when i was a kid.

Inside the park they have souvenir shops and you can find nice postcards or calendars showing the beauty of the island if Mainau. They also have restaurants selling "bratwurst" a typical german sausage served with a piece of bread with mustard or ketchup ;)

They also offer different activities for the kids like treasure hunt, children's tour, pony rides etc.
It's worth a visit specially in spring when the flower bloom everywhere.

Here's the website for the full information:

Tulips and travel - Keukenhof farm, Netherlands

  • Stationsweg 166A, 2161 AM Lisse, Netherlands.

A place for tulip lovers and flower enthusiasts. The picture above is not actually inside keukenhof but around lisse.I did a biking tour with my son around Lisse where keukenhof farm is located. There's bike rentals on the side of the farm, click the link below for the price and infos.
    http://www.rentabikevandam.nl/keukenhof_en.html

We decided to explore Lisse first and to look for tulip fields to take some photos before going inside of keukenhof.

The place is really beautiful and breathtaking,a lot of tulips everywhere! (Literally),made us stay longer just to look at the fields while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful weather. We went there during spring (of course! :D fyi Keukenhof is only open every spring) it was a bit windy and cold but sunny, so not that bad at all.And expect a big volume of tourists coz at the same time it's the flower festival in Lisse.

Going to keukenhof is so easy.Just take the bus from amsterdam/Schiphol airport, just on the side of arrival area. They have direct shuttle bus going to keukenhof. It's also good for a short trip if you have a long transit time.Bus + entrance costs 19€ and you can buy it right there at the bus terminal.

We bought the Holland pass,so we got a free ticket + roundtrip bus ticket to keukenhof.

HOLLAND PASS is an all-in-one city pass in amsterdam.Click the link for all the information.

    http://www.hollandpass.com/keukenhof2014

If you think you will visit mostly the main attractions like madame tussauds, keukenhof,Nemo science center, canal tour etc. it's worth it to purchasr the holland pass specially if you have a kid w/ you ,it also serves as a fast track ticket to some attractions.
